How to Care for Silver Jewelry — AKOL STUDIO

By AKOL STUDIO

To care for AKOL STUDIO silver objects: clean with a soft cloth, avoid ultrasonic cleaners and chemical dips, and store dry, away from perfume and chlorine. Argentium 935 resists tarnish; sterling 925 develops a patina faster. Both are normal. The specifics for each material are below — your piece's material is listed on your invoice and product page.

Silver — Argentium 935

Argentium resists tarnish because of what it is, not what's applied to it. The germanium in the alloy forms a self-healing oxide layer. It will still develop a soft patina with wearing. That is the material being honest.

  • Clean with a soft cloth. Warm water if needed.
  • No ultrasonic cleaners. No chemical dips. No abrasive cloths.
  • Store in the pouch or box, away from perfume and chlorine.

Silver — Sterling 925

Sterling develops a patina faster than Argentium. This is not a flaw. Wipe with a soft silver cloth to restore brightness, or leave it — both outcomes are correct.

  • Same rules: no ultrasonic, no chemicals, no abrasives.
  • Store dry, away from perfume and chlorine.

Stones

Salt-and-pepper diamond, London blue topaz, beige beryl, and cabochon quartz are set without heat treatment.

  • Clean gently with a damp cloth around the setting.
  • Do not submerge stone-set pieces.

General

Remove before swimming, bathing, and high-impact activity. Silver is a soft metal — it marks. That is also the material being honest.

Frequently asked questions

Does Argentium silver tarnish?
Argentium 935 resists tarnish far better than standard sterling. The germanium in the alloy forms a self-healing oxide layer. It develops a soft patina with wear — significantly more slowly than sterling, without the surface treatment sterling requires to achieve the same result.

How do you clean silver jewelry at home?
Wipe with a soft cloth, and use warm water if needed. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, chemical dips, and abrasive cloths — all three can damage the finish or loosen set stones.

Can I shower or swim with silver jewelry?
Remove it before swimming, bathing, and high-impact activity. Chlorine and prolonged water exposure dull silver over time, and stone-set pieces should never be submerged.

Is it normal for silver to develop a patina?
Yes. Sterling 925 patinas faster than Argentium 935. This is the material behaving honestly, not a flaw. Restore brightness with a soft silver cloth, or leave it — both are correct.

How do I care for stone-set pieces?
Clean gently with a damp cloth around the setting and do not submerge the piece. AKOL stones — salt-and-pepper diamond, London blue topaz, beige beryl, and cabochon quartz — are set without heat treatment.
