Every object begins as silver, and the floor never moves: never below sterling.
Sterling 925 is the standard the trade has trusted for centuries — 92.5% silver, hard enough to hold a form and live on a hand. AKOL STUDIO uses it, and often uses more than it. The studio works across silver alloys, including germanium silvers that resist tarnish through their own composition rather than a coating laid on top. Which alloy an object carries depends on its form, and the search for a stronger one doesn't stop. The rule underneath it doesn't change: sometimes better than sterling, never worse.
The surface is left matte. It will mark — silver lives in the world and keeps a record of it. That record is intended, not a flaw to be polished away.
Made to order means nothing is cast that no one asked for. Zero inventory. Zero waste.
Few, and chosen slowly. A salt-and-pepper diamond that keeps its inclusions instead of hiding them. London blue topaz, beige beryl, a cabochon of quartz cut to sit smooth rather than to throw light. The palette is narrow on purpose — nothing here is set to sparkle, everything is set for what it already is. The choosing is the work; by the time an object reaches you, the hardest part — the eye — has already been spent.
Every object is hallmarked 925 under Dutch standards (Waarborg Holland) — the guaranteed minimum the metal meets or exceeds. Where the alloy runs finer, the mark stays at the standard fineness, and the metal quietly exceeds it.
A range of silver alloys, always at minimum sterling 925, sometimes a finer or germanium silver — chosen for the form. Never below sterling standard.
Silver lives with wear. At its baseline the metal behaves like sterling, which develops a patina over time; where finer germanium alloys are used, that resistance is higher. Either way the matte surface is meant to carry a record of wear, not stay untouched. No polishing is needed for daily use — a soft cloth is enough. Avoid chlorine, bleach, and high-sulphur exposure; these affect any silver.
Minimal care is the point. Rinse with warm water, dry with a soft cloth. No silver dips, no ultrasonic cleaning. Store away from harsh cleaning products.
